The Adventures of Sebastiaen des Roseaux

I found this rum from my usual resource, Flaviar.  I looked up at the Ron Dos Maderas website, and here is what they say about it:

Definition: aged rum with a three stage maturing process.

Alcoholic content: 40% AVB.

Production: first resting for five years in the Caribbean, then for three more at the Williams & Humbert facilities in casks which have aged “Dos Cortados” (Palo Cortado), Dos Maderas 5+3 rum once finished then undergoes a third stage of ageing in butts which have previously aged “Don Guido” sherry (Pedro Ximénez) for 20 years, thus giving origin to the extraordinary Dos Maderas PX rum. Both “Don Guido“ and “Dos Cortados” have been aged for 20 years as certified by the oldest Denomination of Origin in Spain: that of Jerez-Xérès-Sherry.

Recognition:
Gold medal at the “Ministry of Rum Tasting Competition” (Miami) 2009.

Flaviar’s notes say:

Dos Maderas is produced by the Spanish winery Bodegas Williams & Humbert. It was founded in 1877 by Sir Alexander Williams, a sherry connoisseur, and Arthur Humbert, an international relations specialist. Located in the geographical triangle formed by the Spanish cities of Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María and Sanlúcar de Barrameda, the winery enjoys a unique microclimate for wine production – which is especially important if you own Europe’s largest wine cellar. Innovation in the last decade brought them to the production of Rum.

Flaviar tasting notes:

Appearance / Colour

Smell / Nose / Aroma
Sweet, caramel, Sherry. Notes of vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and roasted fruit.

Flavour / Taste / Palate

Long, smooth finish, with notes of Pedro Ximénez Sherry cask, liquorice, caramel and nuts.

Comment
Very interesting exercise. A Sherry sensation.

Looking forward to giving it a try.
